Balance

So, my goal is 52 Blogs this year, and as I have said, it’s about the daily growth and discipline of writing.  I had a seven-week break from grad school and got into the daily writing about my thoughts and what I was learning.  I enjoyed the process.

Now I’m back in school and not enjoying the blogging process like I have been.  Despite my lack of enjoyment, I’m committed to the process and will grind.  I heard famous YouTuber Mr. Beast explaining that if you want to be a YouTuber, commit to making a hundred videos and work to improve each one.  He further explained that after 100 videos, you could realistically assess whether you have the skills and talent to engage in that space.  I want to write a book, so though I’m writing weekly papers and discussion board posts daily for school, I’m here to get reps.

I saw a video last night; in it, Joko Willink, the author of Extreme Ownership (an excellent leadership book), listed five tactics for effective leadership.

Man, I love the simplicity of this list, and the one that impacted me at that moment was #4.  Strike a balance.  Jocko explained in leadership; you have to push without pushing too hard and creating unnecessary resistance.  So, for the next 12 weeks, as I finish grad school, with many papers and a thesis, this blog will have a balance.  What I’m learning, thoughts, and some reflection, but most of the push will be in the academic sphere.
