Focus and Rigidity

This week, I'm a day late with my writing and post, which has me reflecting on the balance between focus and rigidity. At work, I'm restructuring our team's focus to maintain our global momentum while enhancing our local impact in the city. This involves eliminating tasks that don't contribute to our goals and establishing a system to support our new actions.

On a personal note, my family is navigating some of the most stressful times of our lives due to health and other issues. Yesterday, I chose not to write. This morning, I realized that missing a day doesn't detract from the bigger picture of developing a writing habit that fosters continuous thinking and growth. The authors of The Four Disciplines of Execution state, “To achieve a goal you have never achieved before, you must start doing things you’ve never done before.”

I'm learning that there is grace in balancing focus and flexibility. A system promotes progress and offers freedom, but it's merely a tool, not the ultimate goal.

Goals are crucial, but so is the flexibility to prioritize what truly matters.
